Samantha mock up

I am having trouble working out how to do this shoe. I am unsure if I will change the design to make it easier for me to make. I planned to include an ankle strap, but I won't add it to the mock up until I have my pattern worked out.

The Pub (out of tafe workspace)

This is the room my father has kindly offered Sammy and I to use for our shoe making. We are both very excited to have a space to use. We have started collecting many bits and pieces so it is going to be fun setting it up over the next few weeks. It is situated above the Rob Roy pub on Halifax Street.

middle of the day tafe desk

Nerea

I have drawn onto the last the design I would like.

I have made a mock up to decide how to approach the pattern pieces, and to test if my design will work.

I did another mock up to try to work out the positioning and the length of the ankle strap. I am also needing to work out the size of the insole board, so I keep altering that with each mock up.

From this mock up I decided how to secure the shoe around my ankle. I had originally thought of a buckle, but was not too keen on using a buckle.

I chose to use pouch clips so I needed to decide where to punch my holes and the distances needed. I would really love to have only 2 holes, one for each clip.

My third mock up to test the insole board (I have it correct) and to try and eliminate the gap where the strap threads into the side pieces (I still haven't go it right)

out of tafe workshop

My dad is an artist. He has just signed a lease for a workspace for himself. It has a few rooms in it and he has offered one for me to use. The keys arrive this week. I am excited to check it out and hopefully start using it. I find it hard to do shoes work when I am not at Tafe as the break from leaving in the afternoon and coming home takes me out of the mood and I find other activities to do.

Hopefully this new space will allow me to keep working on shoes whenever I want. I need to stay on top of my work and hope I don't break any more bones as I will be missing out on 12 tafe days due to going overseas so the space will be very helpful.

It will also allow me to start setting up for when I am no longer at Tafe!

Suitable for different uses. I am planning on using some to cover my heel for the Kate style.

Over the years at Tafe, many things have been donated for our benefit. Such things include leather and soling and left over items from factories that have closed down. Sometimes other things get donated. We have had several thousand leather Police jackets donated (as the uniform is changing). They have all been debadged and we are under strict instructions that we need to cut them up in front of our lecturer and we cannot leave with them.

I am glad we are able to use them as I like the idea of reusing something instead of it going to the bin.  There are many different sized jackets, which results in different panels of leather

mock up to test fit

The leather on my left foot is the mock up of the pattern I did on Monday. The pattern worked and the last fits my foot. I might need to add more to the modification to make it a few mm wider still.

heel patterns

Today we learnt how to make a pattern for a heel so that we could send it off to be made out of wood. I am not sure if it is a method I will use alot as I think it would be a waste to get a wooden heel made, and not show off the wood. It would be useful it I wanted to make wooden heels.

Monday work

On Monday at Tafe we spent the day doing pattern making. We learnt the patterns for high court heels. I started a mock up for one of them to test the pattern and the fit of one of the lasts I would like to use in my range.

The names of my range

I have realised I did not explain that I am making 4 shoes for my range and I have names for each style. They are called Nerea, Kate, Samantha, Georgie. I have chosen the names as they represent people who have something to do with the final style, so I can easily tell which components belong to which design etc.
